This is India!

Posted in Linux, News, Personal, Ubuntu by Kartik Mistry on June 21st, 2005

This is what happened to me today! I got letter from Custom Department about shipment of unusual parcel of Ubuntu cds. I just ignored it and thought that it was any ‘Natak’ of govt. But, I was shocked today by receiving Free Ubuntu cds charged with Rs.1,650/- !! Oh !! It happens only in India!

Did you actually have to shell out the money? Have you done anything about it?

I too ordered a large number of Ubuntu CDs to various addresses (however a single order was at the max for 20 CDs) and I did not get any bill. Guess I am just lucky :-)
Your blog is nice. Will try to read it more regularly. Drupal is an excellent CMS and I use it to host by (beta) blog: http://www.ThoughtfulChaos.com

You are mistaken brother, this is every where.

I am seeing this in USA and Canada.

Be proud of your country. I am Canadian of Indian origin, and I am proud for it.

    Hi Kartik,

if you notice, this happens only for large orders of CDs and this is even mentioned on the Ubuntu site.

I had ordered 10 CDs and had to pay nothing for those. But ofcourse, onw would have to pay for a large parcel recieved by the custom ;)
And this, the site says, would happen in any country.

    Cheers!
