bugs

Posted in Debian by Kartik Mistry on October 21st, 2007

* I started with my packages, ayttm, festival, sitecopy, tagtool and xosview. Some bugs were already fixed at upstream and forgotten and some was unreproducible. I am happy that submitters provided necessary information to keep my tempo high to really fix them.

* I reported small typo (missing ‘ in description) for package ‘debian-maintainers‘ at 11:38 AM, Joey replied and done it (actually it was fixed in NEW version) at 11:56 AM!

USB Drive

Posted in System Administration by Kartik Mistry on June 27th, 2007

* I got new 4GB USB pen drive yesterday. While waiting for my piece at Lemington Road Shoppe, I remembered the day when 256 MB pen drive cost me 1250 INR. This 4GB (~3.8 GB actually!) cost me 1650 INR :)

* Baby is named ‘Kavin’ (gu: કવિન, hi: कविन), which means handsome (also in Tamil!).

HackFest01: Lessons

Posted in Debian by Kartik Mistry on December 25th, 2006

* Lots of learnings! As I mention before, I tried to get festival-gu working with minimal hack of festival-te. I come to conclusion is it is now job of some what more attention and feedback from others regarding language specific stuffs. But, I also found that festival-te debian package also need to apply upstream patch(s) to work correctly. (see: bug: #404463). I also found solution of Kline to our IP from oftc.net’s IRC channels!

* I hardly sleep for 15 minutes in front of my lcd during event. Pizza was good and thanks to bigbazaar! Thanks to everyone for participation. We are planning to have next HackFest in starting of Feb. See also Nirav’s post about this.

Foss.in/2006: EOF

Posted in Foss.in, Linux by Kartik Mistry on November 27th, 2006

* But, its not over! I will post report in details later. It was (is) great event and I enjoyed at full pace. Thanks to Foss.in team, voulnteers and audience. Special thanks to John (jewel), Kapil Hari Paranjape, Prasad, Praveen, Arvind and many to make Debian things happen during event. I am sure that we will attract more people and will come up with actual work done during year. I will upload pictures at my gallery (well, it was with N6600 - so beware of quality!) tonight.

ldap->mysql_pam

Posted in System Administration, Ubuntu by Kartik Mistry on August 29th, 2006

* We may now go with mysql_pam instead of ldap as authentication. But, yet we need to compare both in various tests like speed, ease of management and most important - security. Thanks to Mitul for pointing out this idea!

* I did first call to home from Asterisk! Sound was clear!!

Asterisk Softphone

Posted in Ubuntu by Kartik Mistry on August 27th, 2006

* After 2 days hard work, Me and Nirav got Asterisk working at office but, we are still confuse about which Softphone should be used. We tried Ekiga, Twinkle, Xlite but, Ekiga still has difficult interface and Linux only. Twinkle is only for Linux and difficult to use too. Xlite works fine with Linux but frequently crashes on Nirav’s MacBook.

Any more choices?

* We are also going to combine Asterisk with LDAP.

openldap..

Posted in Ubuntu by Kartik Mistry on August 17th, 2006

* Currently playing with OpenLDAP. I have same problem like this. Since, LDAP+Samba gives user access to all machine so that any user with valid login and password can enter any system and can do some ‘unwanted’ stuff. I want that LDAP only allow user from particular group to login particular machines.

* It was really fun to play with vi, when I booted system with rescue mode and vi was not accepting Aero keys to move cursor up-down-left-right!

* Now, doubt is clear about when and where RMS is coming.
